Poem: In My Heart

Flying bird

In My Heart

When the coals of faith are cooling off inside you;
and you feel like all you do is act a part;
When you’re desperate for one ember that’s still burning –
you will find it, hot and glowing, in my heart.

When you’ve lost that smiling image of yourself,
and you don’t know where to stand or where to start;
When you’re looking for your compass and your candle,
you will find them, safe and protected, in my heart.

When some people label you a failure,
and the accusation pierces like a dart;
There’s one to whom you’ve always been an angel;
I still love you, I still see you, in my heart.

Everything that’s good and sweet about you –
and there’s so much, you’re a living work of art –
is alive in me, I’ve kept it like a songbird,
soaring still and calling in my heart.

    Do let me know what you think, please. This poem is a little more structured and rhyming than most of mine, and is really more of a song than a poem. So I feel a little self-conscious about it.

    It’s good mashaAllah 🙂

    There have been days I could have really used a poem like this one, so in an indulgent sort of way I wish that someone would personally write me something like this lol. For that reason I really like it.

    But to be constructive and help you perfect your already-awesome writing, your third stanza doesn’t have a rhyme like the others do.

    I wasn’t going to comment initially, but I can appreciate your request for feedback. I can tell you honestly that when I first read it, I noted that you employed rhyme, which you seldom do. Except for the small part I pointed out, I think you did an amazing job on this one. I can’t help but wonder who was the inspiration for it!

    As salamu alaykum,

    First of all, thank you very much for sharing this poem and now I will share my personal opinion, please as always take it with a pinch of salt.

    When we write with the conciosness you have done, every word is literally a candle that sparkles Light wherever is needed and for whoever needs it, if I had to choose one word about this poem I would use: HOPE.

    Every paragraph reassures the certainty that you are conscious of the weight of your words and feelings in a deeper sense, to my opinion, and tells that you know the responsibility taken by your words, but in the last paragraph you are literally sending to the Universe a calling to be answered by that one that may be needing to know where lie our fortitudes, in fact, to me there is a change in the tune of the poem, turns from straight, strong and unconditional love into a more subtle sweet love in these last verses.

    The Beauty of this Poem/song lies on the recognition that our weaknesses are outside us and how all our fortitudes lie within ourselves.

    Could be seen as a love song/poem but that it is just the frontier if you go beyond the limits can tell the story of someone that was once lost in life looking for support outside and how this person has been guided to find what longed for inside the Heart and how now it is offering the Treasures discovered to someone else that is in the situation this person was before, but going beyond …this Love turns into Unconditional Love and as a consequence of it, touches everyone. To experience this, it is a blessing, sometimes in life it is easier to experience it than others, you have it now, ma-sha-Allah.

    Insha-Allah, you will find the one that will be a mirrow to your Heart and that will help you to keep awakening the Beauty of both of your Hearts.

    Wasalam.
