Poem: Going to Meet Allah

Rainbow over a beach rock

Going to Meet Allah

Where are we going today?
Why are we going this way?

What lies around the bend?
Where does this road end?

What is the sum of strife?
What is the measure of life?

How can we get free
from chains we can and cannot see?

We’re going to meet Allah.

Fear is a hurricane;
Imaan is a summer rain.

Hatred is a gnawing cancer;
mercy is the only answer.

Peace on me and peace on you;
trust Allah and we’ll get through.

Love Allah with all your power;
get ready for the final Hour.

We’re going to meet Allah, going to meet Allah,
going to meet Allah, going to meet Allah.

    Originally written as a song, and I sometimes sing it to my daughter while driving. But I think it works as a poem as well.

    That is so true Wael. Its the only healthy way forward, the only way that will bring one closer to Allah. Showing mercy means one has forgiven, has let go of negative emotions – like blaming others, blaming self, anger, hatred, revenge. It means one has accepted that everything happens for a reason, that Allah is the Greatest Planner and we will all go to Him.

    You’re right. In fact that line used to be:

    Anger is a gnawing cancer;
    mercy is the only answer.

    Later I changed “anger” to “hatred.” Both are valid, I think.

    I try but I don´t follow it, … I got in internet just one year ago with the blogs, and still adapting myself to this wide world.
